As the largest City in Devon, Plymouth is a lively city and administrative centre. It is also a major Port and Naval Base. As well as being the home port of Sir Francis Drake and the port from where the pilgrim fathers set sail to the New World.
Devastated by bombing during world war two, the centre has been rebuilt, although the old port "Barbican area" was fortunately spared much of the devastation, and this is now geared up as a popular recreational area, with restaurants bars and marinas as well as attractions such as the National Marine Aquarian and the Dartington Glass shop
